The spam was getting so out of control the thread wasn't even openable anymore. Here's what it said:
"Hi there. My kids (aged 10 and 11) are HUGE fans of the handful of Calvin & Hobbes books that I have. I'd like to buy them those that I'm missing but I want to be sure I get what I need but that I don't double up on material I already have. Can someone please confirm what I still need to get?
Here is what I have so far:
1) The Essential Calvin & Hobbes (contains strips from ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ and ‘Something Under the Bed is Drooling’)
2) The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes (contains strips from ‘Yukon Ho!’ and ‘Weirdos From Another Planet!’)
3) The Indespensable Calvin and Hobbes (contains strips from ‘The Revenge of the Baby-Sat’ and ‘Scientific Progress Goes "Boink"’.)
4) The Days are Just Packed
5) Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat
6) The Tenth Anniversary Book
From what I can tell, I need the following books which contain the bulk of material that I don't have already.
a) Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons
b) The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book
c) There's Treasure Everywhere
d) It's A Magical World
Does that sound correct?
Thanks,
Daniel"
"The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book is just a collection of Sunday strips, but it's good to have around. There's also Calvin and Hobbes: Sunday Pages 1985-1995, which is the same idea, but contains later strips and original drafts.
But yes, you are correct.
"
"Thankyou Kim for the reply. I'll plan on getting:
a) Attack of the Deranged Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goons
b) There's Treasure Everywhere
c) It's A Magical World
...at the very least.
With respect to "The Lazy Sunday Book" and "Sunday Pages 1985-1995", I presume these are totally made up of the strips that take up the full page, as opposed to the 3-4 panel strips.
Assuming I'm correct, the other books that I have already (along with the 3 I plan on getting) contain many of these style of strips…so I wonder if these two books contain material that would otherwise be in the books I have already (or about to have). In other words, if I bought these, would I be doubling up on material I already have? Or do they contain original material that isn’t to be found in any of the other books?
I know this might sound pedantic but if I bought them and gave them to my kids I don't want to hear a Calvin-esque "Hey, I already have these ones already!" response.
Thanks again.
Daniel"
"You would be doubling up, but the books offer some cool insight from Bill Watterson himself, and also some original sketches and drafts."
"OK, cool...thanks for letting me know Adam.
